Asian hornet research. Researcher using a microscope and book to identify prey pellets brought to the nest by the invasive Asian hornet species Vespa velutina. This hornet, also called the Asian predatory wasp, first appeared in France in around 2004, and has been spreading, attacking people and preying on native honeybee species. This work will help to identify details of the diet of this hornet. Photographed at the French National Museum of Natural History (MNHM) in Paris, France.
