In 1901 he added a branch establish-ment at Matawan, purchasing, restocking and generally improving the Amcricus Bellstore at that place. Mr. Walling is president of Raritan Hose Company No. 2, ofKeyport. a member of Bay Side Lodge. No. 193. I. O. O. F., and of Caesarea Lodge,of Keyport, F. & A. M. He was married December 2. 1901. to Miss Mary HansonDe GrofF, daughter of William P. De GrotY, of Keyport, whose personal history iscontained in this HISTORY OF THE NEW JERSEY COAST. i6i JUDGE ALFRED WALLING, Jr. The late Judge .•\lfrcd Walling, Jr., was a grandson of Cornelius Walling,who was one of the prominent and successful agriculturists of Raritan (now Mid-dletown) township, Monmouth county. Cornelius Walling married Elizabeth Mur-phy, a member of one of the oldest families of the county. The children of thismarriage who lived to attain maturity were Alfred. Eusebius, Elizabeth (widow ofThomas V. Arrowsmith, of Keyport), and Amelia (wife of Thomas B. Stout, alsoof Keypoit). Of these but one, Jilrs. .?\.rrowsmith, survives. Mr. Walling was aninfluential citizen of the county, having represented his district in the state legisla-ture and filled various offices of lesser importance.
