Between the Caribbean Sea, with its mangroves, coral reefs, and paradisiacal islands, and the dense humid tropical forest of Bastimentos Island, lies the Ngobe community known as Salt Creek (Quebrada Sal). Here, the local organization ALIATUR (Salt Creek Tourism Alliance) has created a project so that visitors to the Bocas del Toro Archipelago can get to know the culture of this indigenous community, its artisan crafts, its dances, and its stories. Actions taken to promote environmental or social sustainability Four hiking trails in the surrounding forests allow the tourist to appreciate the rich fauna and flora of the region. Lodging and typical local food are offered for whoever wishes to visit for one or more days in the community. In case this isn´t enough, the community´s proximity to the Bastimentos National Marine Park allows tourists to pay a quick visit to the marvelous Zapatilla Cays and to enjoy its beaches, coral reefs, and trail.
