A1 Pacific 60163 Tornado is the first main line steam engine to be built in Britain in 50 years.


Britain's newest locomotive as it undergoes its first speed and brake trials in October 2008. 60163 Tornado is the first main line steam engine to be built in 50 years and is hauling test trains with loads of more than 500 tons at 60mph effortlessly Here it goes through its paces on the Great Central Railway between Loughborough. The project to construct a Peppercorn class A1 Pacific steam loco from scratch took 18 years and pounds 3 million, all raised by donations.
