Nor was it only inoil painting that he excelled as a portraitist. His seriesof portrait-drawings, preserved in Windsor Castle, areamong the finest character studies and examples of tech-nical beauty that exist. The following artists are known as the Little Masters,from the small size of the prints they produced:— Heinrich Aldegrever (1502-1562) was an eminent en-graver as well as a painter.
