Close to the small Highland town of Kincraig, Insh, a freshwater lake, never fails to satisfy seekers of water-based activities. There is something on offer here for the very fit and active to the least fit and inactive, the artistic and especially fine picnic ‘beauty spot’ hunters. One thing guaranteed at Loch Insh, is that you will leave here with a wealth of skills and brilliant memorable experiences. Imagine learning to sail with their RYA level 1 certificate course or choosing from a number of other exciting water sporting activities. You could take to the water in a boat fit for two and explore the romantic scenery from the tranquillity of the loch. Satisfy those subsequent hunger pangs with a hearty lunch in the Boathouse Restaurant, where each table provides incomparable loch views. After embarking upon a wildlife cruise book up for a spot of a la carte dining at the same Boathouse Restaurant. Finally, feel free to collapse into a comfortable bed in your cosy lakeside chalet (you will need to book this in advance ideally). The water sports on offer here include kayaking, canoeing and sailing. Windsurfing is on offer here additionally as well as skiing, fishing, archery and more besides. For something a little different, courses are on offer for individuals new to water sports and for those who want to improve upon their skills. A two to four day kayaking course will introduce you to Canadian canoeing along the river down to Kingussie as well as a two day trip from Grantown-On –Spey to Aberlour with an overnight stay. The wildlife cruise boat sets out during the Spring and Summer season at 11am, 2pm and 4pm. The relaxing and very much laid back tour of the vast watery expanse that is Loch Insh takes about one hour. This is RSPB territory, so birdwatchers are in their element spotting the likes of Goldeneyes, Oystercatchers, Widgeons and Ospreys.
