It consists of a bed-plate similar in form to an ordinaryhorseshoe, as per Fig. 3, to which is pivoted at center of toea movable quadrant, graduated or divided into 90 degrees, fromthe ground surface upward, and is operated by means of a leverworking the sweep of the quadrant forward and back. Thislever is also marked to a scale of inches and fractional parts, sothat the height or depth of wall is obtained at the same timewith its degrees of obliquity, which is pointed out by a stationaryindicator fixed perpendicularly to the toe of the bed-plate, regis-tering the angles of the foot upon the arc of the quadrant whenthe lever is brought forward to bear against the wall of the hoof.
