They were empowered to make all neces-sary rules and regulations for the government of the townand to enforce them. The body was also made self-perpetu-ating; they elected their own successors. The General Assembly, in 1806, provided for Superiorcourts, and divided .the State intO six judicial districts,Mecklenburg being in the sixth.
