Two semi detached houses in Street, Old Portsmouth In 1704 permission was given for people to build houses near the dockyard, called Portsmouth Common, then, in 1792, the area was called Portsea and was where Old Portsmouth started By 1930 Old Portsmouth was in a dilapidated state. It was bombed in World War II and became a partial ruin for many years. Now many of the old houses have been restored
