Land that has been manured heavily the year previous is the best. Cover the seed about one-half inch in depth, and press the soil firm- ly over the seed with the feet or a roller. For early use sow as early in spring as the ground can be worked, and for late crop from May 1st to June 1st. Sow in drills 15 inches apart and thin to three or four inches apart in row. Two and one-half pounds of seed will sow an acre, ^> oz. to 100 feet of drill. Early Half Long Scarlet. (Stump Rooted.) Excellent for early market or table use, of med- ium size. Pkt. 5c, oz. 10c, V4m. 20c, lb. 65c Guerande, or Ox-Heart. This is one of the most valuable sorts, either for family use or market. Intermediate be- tween the Half Long and Horn varieties.
