One of the objectionsraised against Ferodo is that when it becomes hot understrenuous service it assumes a spongy, almost rubberycharacter, with a loss of efficiency. Excellent results areclaimed by Excelsior with alternating bands of cast ironand Ferodo. The dust from the iron shoes becomes im-pregnated in the fabric lining and improves its generalefficiency. Adjusting Arrangements Much of the detail of these high-class braking systemsis worth studying, and particularly the attention whichhas been given to arrangements for taking up wear andrapidly adjusting the brakes.
