Duchess of Windsor Apartments, Spanish Revival, Vallejo California

The future Duchess of Windsor (Wallis Simpson) is said to have lived here briefly with her first husband, naval aviator Lieutenant Commander Earl Winfield Spencer. Wallis Warfield met her first husband in Pensacola in 1916. They married in Baltimore later that year. Spencer was posted to San Diego from 1917 until 1921 and thence to Washington and China. If they lived here at all, it must have been briefly in early 1917. The Spanish revival-style building was constructed in 1908 as the Collins Apartments.
