Mr. Peirson was eminently a Christian gentleman of theold school. He carried himself to extreme old age withmilitary crectness, was scrupulously courteous in his man-. ners, self-possessed, affable, generous, tender-hearted, andtrue. An intimate of the most estimable men of his town, all classes and all ages loved him and did him honor,—akind friend, a faithful husband and father, given to hos-pitality. He wore to the last the old-fashioned small-clothesand knee-buckles, but kept abreast with the times in activityof thought and general information. Dissenting from thepopular theology, he joined heartily with a few of his fellow-citizens and of Saco inbuilding a church upon apure gospel foundation, un-fettered by human fearless truthfulness andsincerity marked him inall his words and acts. In-teresting anecdotes mightbe related of his courage, both military and was noted for humorand racy wit, that gave zestwithout bitterness to hisconversation. In his manytrials he was cheerfullysubmissive to the goodGod in whom he trusted
