In the swordfish (Xiphias glad ins), these vessels elahorate to form a hexagonal mesh of confluent vessels of rather large caliber (approximately mm diameter) underlying the entire choriocapillaris and supplying it with blood by way of fine sprigs arising directly from the coarse vessels. The volume of blood contained in these vessels of the swordfish and in the intermediate arterial vessels noted in Lcpidocybinin must be large. Possibly it serves as a mobile reservoir of heat,.
