Congo bushmeat market. Two hunters carrying a dead wild boar to sell at a bushmeat market being held in Mbandaka, Equateur Province, Democratic Republic of Congo. Livestock farming is not well-developed in this area of Africa, and a large market exists for bushmeat, the fresh and dried meat of animals caught in the wild. In this case, the animals are hunted in the tropical rainforests that cover much of the region. The practice is not well-regulated and year-round hunting leads to increased pressure on endangered species. Animals sold as bushmeat include antelopes, monkeys, rats, wild boars, tortoises, crocodiles and even elephants.
