Minaret of Ahmed Aga, Chania, Crete, Greece

The minaret is part of the Ahmed Aga Mosque. A Christian church operating on the site was converted into a Muslim place of worship by Haseki Ahmed Aga, head of the Janissaries during the Ottoman conquest of Chania. It is the only minaret preserved intact, crowned by a crescent moon. The building has survived with multiple additions. There was a small cemetery in the mosque courtyard with two mausoleums - Promenade - Monuments of History
