In April, 1892,the house was torn down. A part of Mr. Brewers boyhood was passed with hisgrandfather, Dr. Chauncey Brewer, who was a leadingphysician, and lived on Ferry lane, now Cypress 1825 he became a partner with his uncle as apothecary,and was engaged in the business until his death, a periodof quite fifty-five years. During this time his brotherJames became a partner under the firm name of H. & J. 78 SKETCHES OF THE OLD INHABITANTS. This house, 48 High street, formerly stood on Maple street, between theresidence of the late Dr. H. A. Collins and the South church, and was built byDr. Chauncey Brewer about the year 1750. After his death it was occupied by hisson, Henry Brewer, and in it his sons, Henry and James Brewer (druggists), wereborn. On the opening of High street in 1829, Stephen Jones bought the house,and in 1830 moved it on to High street. After his death and on the death of hiswife, it came into the possession of their daughter, Mrs. Henrietta Davis, whoresided there until her death, January 14, 1892, when, soon after, the property wassold to William H.
