Eastern Equine Encephalitis Virus, TEM
Color enhanced transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) virus in the salivary gland of a mosquito. The virus can be transmitted to humans, birds, and horses through the bite of an infected mostquito. People can become infected and have no symptoms. Symptoms range from mild flu-like symptoms to inflammation of the brain, coma, and death.
