Poughkeepsie Sailor Wins Silver Star. Fellow Poughkeepsie shipmates in the North African invasion admire the Silver Star won by Curry, USNR, for gallantry in action. Curry, a pharmacist's mate 3/c, remained on a beach swept by enemy fire treating wounded Coast Guardsmen and soldiers. From left to right, are: Lieut. Bruno, USNR, 11 Union St.; Curry, Roosevelt Ct., and KJ. Wanzer, electrician's mate 1/c, Coast Guard, 28 Columbia Ave., all of Poughkeepsie. They served aboard a Navy Combat Transport largely manned by Coast Guardsmen.
