After one solid week of rain and the most miserable kind of growing weather of which it is possible to conceive, you cannot expect to get a pleasant report from the growers. In fact, the last four weeks have been everything but what was wanted to produce a big Christmas crop, but, just the same, there will be plenty. The retailers have had a pretty good week. The kermess, a dance which lasted for several days and which was conducted by the social set, for charity, made a large demand for the better class of flowers. This, with Christmas 4)reparations, kept everybody busy. The green goods people were all on the move and the u^ual lot of Christmas trees are in the market, with greens of all kinds. Some good holly, with some that is not so good, is to be seen. The wholesalers are having quite a busy time. Flowers are moving well, with the exception of lilies, of which there have been a few too many. Some fine Yellow Trumpet narcissi are to be seen; also Proserpine tulips with stems about six inches long. Florists' sup- plies, however, are the most active and the houses handling these goods are cer- tainly moving. Various Notes. All of the stores are beautiful. The A. W. Smith Co. has a specially beauti- ful arrangement. The ceiling is draped with greens mingled with electric lights, which change in color, becoming white, red and light green at regular intervals. The store is decorated with large poin- settia plants over the balconies and a general variety of begonias and other plants. Eandolph & McClements' store seems to contain everything imaginable in the way of plants in baskets, as they make a special feature of plants for the holi- days, believing they can make them take the place of cut flowers to some extent, but they are compelled to admit that the usual quantity of cut flowers is called for just the
