Fig. 29.—Clean-up Room at the Cyanide Plant of Liberty BellMine, showing Iron Vacuum-tanks, Zinc Precipitating-boxes, Vac-uum-pumps, Solution-pumps, Acid-tanks. APPENDIX. Volumetric Analysis. By volumetric analysis the quantity of a substancein a solution is determined by another solution of knownstrength, with which the solution to be determinedreacts. When the reaction is complete, a precipitateforms, or ceases to form; a color appears, or dis-appears; a change of color occurs, or a change of coloris produced in an indicator put into the solution for thispurpose. End Reaction.—The point in the operation where thereaction is complete, as indicated by change of color, etc., is called the end reaction. Titration is the operation of running a standard solu-tion into the solution to be determined, and observingthe end reaction: the operation of volumetric analysis. Normal Factor.—The amount in grams of the reagentin 1 cubic centimeter of a normal solution is calledthe normal factor.
