Milky Way over Uluru. Milky Way in the night sky over Uluru (Ayers Rock), Australia. Uluru is a large sandstone rock formation in the southern part of the Northern Territory in central Australia. It is the largest monolith in the world - standing 348 metres high, 863 metres above sea level and with a circumference of km. It is sacred to the Anangu aboriginal people of the area and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
