People get ready for the first prayer. The event focuses on prayers and supplication and does not allow political discussion. Local police estimated the number of attendees in 2007 to be 3 million while in 2010 the number of attendees was 5 million. -- The first phase of the Biswa Ijtema, one of the largest gatherings of Muslims in the world, begins on the banks of the Turag river in Tongi. Hundreds of thousands of devotees joined the three day congregation.
