It was received last week by numerous growers, from one of the largest wholesale and retail seed companies in the United States: * * We are "discriminating as much as possible, when placing growing con- tracts or buying any filling-in goods necessary in our line of business, be- tween the growers who, do a legitimate growing business and'quote and sell only to seed houses and those who quote and sell direct to our customers. "We have eighteen to twenty travel- ing men on the road practically the year around and they are reporting to us that many so-called 'growers' in the United States as well as in Europe are sending lists, special letters and quotations direct to our customers and, in many instances, offering goods direct to the trade we sell at as low and in some instances at lower prices than they are quoting to us or other large seed houses. "We have now instructed our travel- ing men to report the date of any quo- tations they see and the names of all growers quoting direct to our trade, so that we may know and keep on record a list of all growers, both in the United States and European countries, who are trying to solicit our business away from us by quoting direct to our trade, as we do not intend to place con- tracts or orders to any extent with growers who quote direct to our cus- ; IMPORTS OF QBASS SEED. The following table, prepared in the seed laboratory of the bureau of plant industry, United States Department of Agriculture, shows the amount of the various kinds of forage plant seeds sub- ject to the seed importation act per- mitted entry into the United States be- tween April 1 and April 15, 1920, in- clusive, and during the nine and one- half months
