Matthew Powel, commanding officer of the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Donald Cook (DDG 75), meets with Jean-Claude Averso, Deputy Mayor for Defense Matters of Toulon, while the ship is in Toulon, France, Feb. 1, 2019. Donald Cook, forward-deployed to Rota, Spain, is on its eighth patrol in the 6th Fleet area of operations in support of national security interests in Europe and Africa.
