Shooting buffalo on the Kansas-Pacific Railroad line. After a work by an unidentified artist which appeared in the June 3, 1871 edition of Frank Leslie's illustrated newspaper. The mass slaughter of buffalo in the USA reduced the wild herds from tens of millions to near extinction. This picture reflects the advertising of railroad companies that a passenger could “hunt by rail.”
