A most interesting observation is made by Dr. De Sinety, whohas been struck with the frequency of apparently cystic ovaries inchildren at the time of birth, and especially a few days after, andwho has found, in the great majority of the ovaries of childrennear the full term, or who die a few days after mature birth, thatGraafian follicles are visible to the naked eye if sections of theovaries are made. Hedraws attention to thefact, familiar to every-one, that it is nounusual thing to seeslight swelling of thebreasts of newly-bornchildren, not onlyfemale, but male, andthe secretion of a milkyfluid. This generallyceases in a few days,and the gland remainsquiescent till thepuberty of girls, andthroughout life in boys.
