Important developments have taken place in the markets duringthe past week and a number of price changes have taken effect. Someof the changes were not unexpected. Paint prices have been changedand the changes are along the lines predicted by Hardware and Metalin several recent issues. Hardware and Metals prediction regardinghigher prices on binder twine has also proven correct and pricesadvanced this week. The feature of the metal markets this week isthe extraordinary advance in the price of tin. Linseed oil quota-tions are still fluctuating and some firms that still have oil boughtsome time ago at low figures are shading prices below the generallevel. The advent of warmer weather has had a good effect on tradeand country business is improving rapidly. The improvement inthe cities is not so marked as in the rural communities, but never-theless, an improvement is noted. The war stamp tax goes intoeffect this week. Particulars are given on page 36.
