Hospital Department, |Indiana State Prison, December 15, 18»31, / To the Board of Directors: Gentlemen—In making this, mj annual report upon the condi-tion • of this department of the Institution, in accordance with itsregulations, I am happy to say that during the year we have had anunprecedented immunity from disease of any serious character. The number of prescriptions made is 6,296. The whole numberof patients treated, both in the Hospital and outside, is 1238. Threedeaths have occurred—one from typhoid fever, one from pulmonaryconsumption, and the other from hemorrhage of the bowels. At this time the convicts are almost totally free from , that among so many men, mostly of previous bad habits, therewould necessarily be chronic cases, requiring occasional such, slight indispositions daily make their appearance.
