Light micrograph of hemosiderin deposits in the interstitium as well as within cardiac myocytes of the left ventricle of the heart. The presence of iron was confirmed with the help of Prussian blue stain. There is mild interstitial fibrosis and scattered lymphocytes are present. This young male patient presented with congestive heart failure and died 10 days after hospitalization. The patient had primary hemochromatosis type 1 that was confirmed by documenting the presence of mutation C282Y in the HFE gene in peripheral blood. There was history of early death from heart failure in several relatives.
