DonnerLake lies two and a half miles northwest of is about three miles long, one mile wide, and 200feet deep. This, and Lake Tahoe, are thought bysome to be craters of extinct volcanoes, the mount-ains around them presenting evidence of volcanicformation. The waters are cold, and clear as is surrounded on three sides with towering mount-ains, which are covered with a heavy growth of fir,8]iruce, and pine. Its watei-s are discharged intothe Truckee liiver. HONEY L.\KE Is a circular sheet of water, about ten miles across,and lies fitly miles north of Truckee City.
