Studiesindicate that the use of L-4 facilities willresult in a lower cost per circuit milein certain areas than any microwavesystem with comparable transmissionperformance. The first 20-tube coaxial cable sched-uled to be equipped with L-4 is the Wash-ington-Miami cable, expected to be inservice in 1967. Because of the many ad-ditional advantages of the new 20-tubecable and the L-4 system, coaxial cable installations being planned are increas-ing at an extremely rapid rate. Looking Ahead Year after year, the average long dis-tance call extends over a longer distanceand lasts longer.
