Ratgoed slate mine abandoned winch with heavy duty steel wire rope cable and supporting wheels which are in a slow state of decay

Ratgoed pronounced Yr Allt Goed in native Welsh, is an abandoned slate quarry (ceased production in 1946) There is much evidence of the former industial past both above and below ground. (Unless you have mine exploration experience or an experienced guide I would not recommed going into the mine) It is situated in the Dyfi Forest, the village itself Ratgoed has been left to ruin but lots of evidence of it former past still exist. Yr Allt Goed translated is steep wooded hillside and this is where the mine is situated above the abandoned village. One of the winches used on the steep hillside can still be viewed
