When itis desired to load the truck the handle is raised, so tliat thetop of the axle will dip forward and allow the hooks to beslipped under the flanges of the box. A sheet iron cover isfastened to the spokes on the inside of the wheel, so that thebox will not catch in them when it is being moved. Only oneman is required to handle and transport the box with this truck. RELIEF VALVE TESTING MACHINE. An apparatus for giving relief valves and all other valvesiif a similar nature a hydraulic test of 200 His. pressure per Fig. 3—Device for Testing Relief Valves. in., by using a shop air pressure of 90 lbs., is shown in Fig. is made from an old 14-in. brake cylinder, which has a smallercylinder 6 in. in diameter screwed into the top head. A pistonrod connects the large piston to a smaller one in the top cylin-der, which forces the water into the valve to be tested. Byopening a three-way cock, so as to let air into the undersideof the large cylinder, the piston is forced up and will com-press the water in the small cylinder to a high pressure, whichmay be regulated by the amount of air applied. A cap is fitted 148 AMERICAN ENGINEER. Vol. 86, Xo. 3. to the top of the small cylinder so that connections of differentsizes may be screwed in to suit the different valves. After thevalve has been tested the three-way valve is reversed, allowingthe air to escape from under the large piston and turning theair in on top so as to force the piston down.
