Replica of a 14th Navicula de Venetiis (‘Little ship from Venice’), a brass measuring instrument used for navigation and by early astronomers.

Used in the 14th and 15th centuries in medieval Europe the Navicula has two brass plates joined with the front displaying lines of the diurnal and average hours and zodiacal scale and a rod with string attached, hinged at the centre giving a 45 degree arc. The back features the shadow square, the lines of unequal hours, and a 90° scale. The months shown by the index are displayed at the bottom. This precise replica was crafted by Master Terebrus, a Ukranian producer of ancient navigation and mathematical tools (visit ).
