Six and one-half Avenue is seen in Midtown Manhattan in New York

Six and one-half Avenue is seen in Midtown Manhattan in New York on Friday, July 6, 2012. The new street is actually a series of interconnected pedestrian arcades, mid-block between Sixth and Seventh Avenues, running from West 51 Street to West 57 Street. The city is in the process of installing signage and pedestrian crossings. Up to 1200 people an hour use the connected arcades to travel through midtown. The arcades are privately owned public spaces that are provided by the buildings' owners in exchange for zoning variances. (© Richard B. Levine)
