Lower part of the levator The inferior segment of the funnel-shaped process givin off from the posterior layerof the deep perineal fascia, which is continuous with the recto-vesical fascia: the attach, ment of this fascia to the recto-vesical fold of peritoneum is seen nt 22. Fascia of the Upper Extremity.—The superficial contains betweenits layers the superficial nerves, veins, and lymphatics. The deep isthick upon the dorsum of the scapula, but thin in the axillary space[n tho fore-arm it is very strong at the elbow and wrist joints, unitingwith the ligamentous structures. In the latter joint it forms the pos-terior annular ligament. The palmar fascia occupies the middle andlideof the hand, its central portion spreads over the heads of the meta-carpal bonesv where t divides into slips which are attached to tb*phalanges. PELVIC FASCIA. ANGBIOLOGY. Ui Fascia of the Lower Extremity.—As in the upper extremity, thetuperficial fascia of the lower contains between its layers the superficialvessels and nerves. At the groin these jayers are separated by thelymphatic glands. The deep fascir of the thigh is called, from its greatextent, fascia lata. It is strongly connected with the prominent pointsof bone around the hip, Unee, ankle joints. The sheath of thefcmoral vessels is a continuation of the abdominal fascia down the this sheath is an interval between the vein and its inner wall, theupper opening of which is called the femoral ring. This ring iabounled in front by Poupaits ligament behind by the os pubis, inter-nally by Gimbernats ligament, and externally by the femoral vein, andis closed only by a thin layer of areolar tissue, called septum crurale, which retains the lymphatic gland in position, and the peritoneum.
