St Columba's Well & Harbour at head of the landing place on Eileach an Naoimh (rocky place of the saint) amongst the Garvellachs, Argyll.

St Columba's Well & Harbour at the head of the landing place on Eileach an Naoimh (rocky place of the saint) amongst the Garvellachs (rough rocks) in the Firth of Lorn. Once believed to be the 'Hinba' monastery founded by St Columba & used by him as a retreat from Iona which he established in 563. Now thought to be 'Aileach' founded 542 by St Brendan the Navigator, but Columban traditions remain: this may be the island he knew as 'Elen' & the traditional burial place of his mother Eithne overlooks the monastery.
