Construction work on the Brighton i360 - a new attraction on Brighton's seafront and the world's first vertical cable car
Construction work on the Brighton i360 - a new attraction on Brighton's seafront at the site of the old derelict West Pier. The 175 metre high steel observation tower has an ascending enclosed circular viewing platform surrounding the needle tower with a capacity for 200 people. It is the world's first vertical cable car - the architects are Marks Barfield who also designed the London Eye. The steel sections of the tower (or cans) have been bought to the beach by barge. They are stored on the beach, then hoisted by crane to sit within a square 'jacking tower' where they are bolted one on top of the other to create the tower. The attraction opened 4 August 2016.
