De- partment of Agriculture, Washington, D. C, with the object of eliminat- ing rust. This strain was finally obtained by continued selection of the best plants of Martha Washington, and produces large straight shoots, dark green in color with heavy overtone. The tips are tight and firm and do not open out or begin to branch until well out of the ground, making the finest kind of green asparagus. Makes a most at- tractive bunch and is in popular demand in all markets and will soon supersede the older varieties, which are always susceptible to rust.
