Final branches (hydrocladia) sub-opposite in arrangement, lightly fascicled or unfascicled. Hydrocladia andfinal terminations of other branches segmented where exposed, with one or twohydrothecae to an internode, but with many irregular regenerative normally alternate in arrangement with the two rows more or lessin one plane, and this arrangement characteristic of unfascicled hydrocladia 16 ANNALS OF THE SOUTH AFRICAN MUSEUM. HYDROIDS FROM THE KERGUELEN AND CROZET SHELVES 17 and smaller branches, but in fascicled branches supplementary hydrothecaemay arise from peripheral tubes in any plane and in any position imparting avery irregular appearance to the whole. Hydrothecae tubular, widening to margin which is slightly everted, curvedoutwards, those in axils of hydrocladia less curved and practically distinct and oblique. Nematothecae two-chambered, with a short basal chamber and a longtubular distal chamber, one or two on each hydrotheca-bearing apophysis,that/those of the axillary hydrotheca shifted on to the apophysis next to it,various irregular suppl
