Tickell ends as follows—Thereare fragments of twelve seals yet hanging at the charter ; but what is rather singular it hasno date. (137) An interesting light is thrown by these ordinances uiion the legal status of thegilds in general. Religious Gilds of Kingston-upon-Httll. 119 preserved by E. S. Wilson, Esq., it seems to have been at thelatter time a plain upper room, with no ornaments or architec-tural pretension. De la Pryme tells us, however, that it hadbeen very much altered, and probably its last stage gave noreliable indication of what it was in the flourishing days ofSt. John the Baptists Chapter IX.
