Samuel Henshaw, of the New York Botanical Garden, entertained the New Jersey Floricultural Society at its meet- ing on March 7, with a talk on what he has seen on his recent visit to Puerto Rico and Trinidad, of the flora and peo- ple of those islands. He told of the beauty of the tropical mountains of Trinidad, the botanical gardens there, the rank- ness of the forest growths, the sugar plantations and other agricultural resources of Puerto Rico, etc., and enumer- ated among the plants he had noted in a wild state twenty-one varieties of native begonias, tradescantias, oxalises, maran- tas, euphorbias, aloes, crotons, bananas, palms, tree ferns and Victoria regia. It is the purpose of the New Jersey Floricultural Society to distribute among the school children, in May several thousands of plants, with directions for their cultivation, and arrange for the admittance of these plantsatthefall exhi- bition of the society, when prizes will be awarded to the most worth v.
