Mais, Maiz, Sr. CULTURE.—The Sweet or Sugar varieties, being liable to rot in cold or wet ground, should not be planted before May, or until the ground has become warm; for a succession continue planting every two weeks, until the middle of July, in rich, well- manured ground, in hills 3 feet apart each way, covering about half an inch, and thin out to 3 plants to a hill. The extra early varieties can be planted 18 inches in the row and 2J feet between the rows. In elevated and mountainous districts we would recommend the Extra Early and Second Early sorts only, a,nd plantings to be made not later than June 20th to July 1st.
