1932 The Dynasphere, Monowheel or Motor Wheel, A vehicle carrying 8 passengers, invented and patented by Dr J. A. Purves FRSE (1870 – 1952) from Taunton, Somerset, UK. His idea for the vehicle was said to be inspired by a sketch made by Leonardo da Vinci. Both electric and petrol driven prototypes were manufactured. Initially there was no steering other than the driver leaning out of the side, but later a steering wheel was incorporated (as in this illustration of the dyanasphere 8 beach model photographed on a beach in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, England)
