Night beach view, looking north, to fireworks rising above Central Pier Big Wheel, Blackpool Illuminations, UK

Blackpool's Central Pier dates to 1864, the year after the more genteel North Pier. In 1990 the pier was strengthened, at a cost of £75,000, to take the weight of the 32 metres (108 feet) tall 'Big Wheel', here illuminated with red and orange lights. On Fridays, in September, from approximately pm to pm, Blackpool hosts a World Fireworks Championship. Teams from Ireland, China and France featured in 2013. The fireworks displays are located on the North Pier. Here they are seen looking north from the Central Sands towards the Central Pier 'Big Wheel' and a partly illuminated Blackpool Tower. The red lights, illuminated 'Sky Flyer' amusement ride is also seen, north of the Central Pier's entrance. Not present in 2015, tourists sat in seats, rising and spinning around the illuminated central column. A night illuminations view.
