Cosmocaixa Science Museum in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain

CosmoCaixa, Barcelona's science museum, is located in a modernist building from 1909, the work of the architect Josep Domènech i Estapà. The building initially housed an asylum for the blind, l'Empar de Santa Llúcia, which was in operation until 1979. Two years later, and after being remodeled and expanded by Jordi Garcés and Enric Sòria, the Science Museum opened its doors from the ”la Caixa” Foundation, an innovative proposal with the aim of bringing science closer to citizens.
