Gustave Lippmann was born injSTeuwied, Germany, July 11, early displayed an inclination to-wards the profession of medicine, 286 ONE HUNDRED YEARS OF and studied to that end. He graduated, from the Universityof Bonn in 1892, and came to Amer-ica and located in St. Louis in thesame year. Dr. Lippmann is a specialist inmteixa] medicine and diseases ofthe eyes. He is a valued memberof the St. Louis Medical Society, ofthe St. Louis Biological Society andof the St. Louis Microscopical Soci-. ety. He has been for six years an as-sistant ophthalmic surgeon in theSt. Louis Polyclinic Eye Depart-ment. Dr. Lippmann is well liked by hisprofessional brethren for his schol-arly and other qualities, and is so-cially a popular figure in the city ofhis adoption; a close student, un-tiring in his efforts to gain furtherknowledge along his particular lineof work, makes him quite a busyman. ABRAM LITTON. Dr. Abram Litton, the subject ofthis sketch, was born in Dublin, Ireland, May 20, 1814, being theyoungest of nine children. Whena child two years of age his fatherremoved with his entire family ,tothe United States. He first settledin Pittsburg, Pa., but, remainingbut a short time, ultimately movedto Nashville, Tenn., which perma-nently became his residence. received his early educationin small private schools of Nashville,and in 1829 entered the junior classof the University of Nashville, fromwhich institution he graduated in1831, being then 17 years of age.
