There are good displays of columbine in several private gardens this season and they seem to be peculiarly adapted to this climate, being found wild in the hills. It may safely be predicted that the man who will grow a quan- tity of the good ones for cut flowers will find that they will bring him good returns. The first dahlia bloom for the season was seen here this weelc. It bloomed in the open, too. Tubers that are left in the ground over winter here often give good returns in May. Pot plants are scarce and even the ferns are well sold out. Good ferns have; seldom been so scarce here. Various Notes. The .Toy Floral Co. has been keepini^ stock well cleaned up of late. T. H. .Toy, Jr., was out of the city last week. The firm was caught pretty short, on carnations for Mothers' day, but sold other flowers readily, so that there was little loss on that account. Geny Bros, have been showing some of the best red peonies ever seen in the south. Their carnations are holding up well for tl'p season, looking about as well as in the winter. They have done a good plant business this spring, but- are about sold out. Haury & Sons have a good line of plants of most kinds on hand yet, though their busjjjess^ has been heavy.
