Resveratrol molecule. Computer model of a molecule of resveratrol. Atoms are represented as spheres and are colour-coded: carbon (blue), hydrogen (white) and oxygen (orange). Resveratrol is a phytoalexin, a defence chemical produced by plants, found in red grapes, peanuts, blueberries and some pines. It protects these plants against fungal infections. Resveratrol has also been found to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties in humans and to decrease the risk of cardiovascular disease.
